Projects
The Bradbury Multi-Therapy Centre
Construction of a new £1.5 million purpose-built multi-therapy activity centre at our Roe Head site was completed in January 2006. The Bradbury Multi-Therapy Activity Centre includes a hydrotherapy/sensory pool and a jacuzzi spa pool together with facilities for rebound (on a trampoline) and hippotherapy (simulated horse riding).
The centre is aimed at increasing the participation of children, young people and adults with complex physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties, in physical activities. Participation in such activities can contribute to their overall health, well-being, limb control and muscle coordination. The Centre is regularly used by those that we care for within the Trust and is also available to local groups and individuals with specialist needs. If you are interested in hiring the facility please contact us for more details.
The construction of the multi-therapy activity centre would not be possible without the generosity and commitment of all the trusts, foundations, companies, organisations and individuals that have dedicated funds to this ambitious project. All of us here at Hollybank are extremely grateful for such contributions.
Funds for the centre have been derived from a wide variety of sources including events, individuals, local community groups and companies together with trusts and foundations. Some of the major funders include:
- Department for Education and Skills
- Garfield Weston Foundation
- Hartshead Junior & Infant School
- HBOS
- Ladbrokes in the Community Charitable Trust
- Longcauseway United Reformed Church
- Skipton Building Society Chritable Foundation
- Sport England
- The Bailey Thomas Charitable Trust
- The Beatrice Laing Trust
- The Bradbury Foundation
- The Clothworkers' Foundation
- The Emmandjay Charitable Trust
- The Foyle Foundation
- The Linden Charitable Trust
- The N&P Hartley Memorial Trust
- The Sir George Martin Trust
- The Wolfson Foundation
However, this list is by no means exhaustive and we would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has helped us turn the multi-therapy activity centre into a reality, by attending events, running events or simply donating money.
The 'Three Pips' Development
The Three Pips, a large detached bungalow in Fitzwilliam, Wakefield, is the newest addition to the Hollybank Trust and was officially opened on Wednesday 17 May 2006 by Lord St Oswald (left).
The Trust has recently taken the momentous step of offering all residents a “home for life” – and demand for places at our independence homes in the community has sky rocketed. Hollybank purchased “The Three Pips” property in order to meet this increased demand.
Although the Three Pips was an already established residential bungalow, the property has been refurbished to allow the new occupants the greatest independence and highest standards possible. Buying the house and renovation work, which included building work, general refurbishment and the installation of specialist equipment, cost nearly £600,000. This amount has been raised through fundraising events such as the Brighouse and Rastrick concert, kind donations from the public and funding from organisations including Lloyds TSB Foundation of England and Wales and the ACT Foundation.
