Web Site Accessibility

We are committed to making our web site accessible, and subscribe to the various recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). In this respect we seek to ensure that the entire web site uses valid XHTML (Transitional) 1.0, valid cascading style sheets and acknowledges with the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative guidelines.

Visitors are given the choice of 'default' or 'low vision' versions of our web site at the top of every web page.

The 'default' version provides a graphics-rich interface, typical of most web sites on the Internet, and is designed to be viewed at screen resolutions of 1024 X 768 pixels and above.

The 'low vision' version includes images only where they add significant meaning to the accompanying text. Text is presented in a large yellow sans-serif typeface set against a black background.

This feature is facilitated by the use of an alternative 'cascading style sheet' (CSS). Once a preferred viewing style has been chosen, a 'cookie' is used to ensure that subsequent pages are displayed according to your selected preference unless you reselect the original style (unfortunately this facility is not currently available to visitors using the Macintosh-only 'Safari' browser).

A separate style sheet, which removes unnecessary elements such as the navigation menu and 'Quick Links', is used to define the printed version of each page.
