Running and Ringing for Vernet bells and the Hollybank Trust

Catherine Ladd was a passionate runner and a long standing member of Abbey Runners before she sadly passed away to cancer in 2014. Catherine was also a trained and avid bell ringer, and her husband, Jeff, is raising money in her memory for 10 new bells at Vernet-les-Bains, one of which will be called The Abbey Bell.

Our Head of Fundraising, Julie MacNaughton had the pleasure of visiting John Taylor’s Bell foundry in Dec 2018. After watching, casting of the bell take place in the foundry the visiting group were treated to ringing of the Foundry bells (12bells, 6-2-13 in B). Julie described the bell ringing as an unbelievably and very emotional experience.

Catherine worked as a careers adviser in and around Mirfield, so her husband and family have decided that half the funds raised by 'Abbey' will be donated to Hollybank Trust. Based in Mirfield, Hollybank Trust gives high quality care to around 128 severely disabled babies, children and young adults. This includes a special school, high quality supported accommodation, extensive therapy, medical care, engaging sports, arts and music activities.
