The great thing about being a support worker is that no two days are ever the same. We've tried to capture what a typical day might look like here at Hollybank.

“Being a support worker at Hollybank is more than just a job, it’s like being part of a family.”

7am

I’m on the early shift this week and my day starts off with a briefing session, so I can catch up with what’s happened overnight and find out who I’ll be supporting today.

8am

Time to wake Suzie up, before getting her showered and dressed for today’s activities.

9am

Suzie and I join some of the other adults for breakfast. With the help of the speech and language team, we have developed a tool so that Suzie can tell me exactly what she wants to eat, rather than us choose for her.

10am

I give Suzie her medication and help her freshen up. Then between the two of us, we tackle her growing mountain of washing and tidy her room.

11am

I help Suzie call her family using Skype – which she loves – and then it’s my favourite part of the day, when Suzie and I get to take a walk around the gardens.

12 noon

We head up to the main building and grab a spot of lunch in the Treetops Café – it gets pretty busy up there and Suzie enjoys catching up with her friends from the other homes.

1pm

Time for a quick toilet break for us both, before we move over to the Bradbury Centre for Suzie’s hydrotherapy session. The physiotherapists take over here, giving me time to take a break.

2pm

I’ve got some paperwork to complete, so I make us both a cup of tea before getting Suzie settled in the lounge so she can watch ‘Doctors’ with some of her friends.

3pm

There’s an art session going on in the home today – led by one of Hollybank’s enrichment team – so I help Suzie roll up her sleeves and get stuck in.

4pm

Painting can get pretty messy, so I help Suzie with a quick wash and change of clothes. Then it’s time for a handover with my senior before my shift ends.

Have you got what it takes to go above and beyond for our children, young people and adults? Yes? Great, here's some more information...
